Tribal court

- National Indian Justice
Center (NIJC): An Indian owned and operated non-profit corporation
created in 1983 through the collective efforts of the National
American Indian Court Judges Association, the American Indian
Lawyer Training Program, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs in
order to establish an independent national resource for tribal
courts. Its goals are to design and deliver legal education,
research, and technical assistance programs which seek to improve
tribal court systems and the administration of justice in Indian
country.

by Jane Marx. April 30, 1993. This memorandum analyzes civil
rights cases decided by tribal courts from 1988 to 1992 as reported
in the Indian Law Reporter, covering cases brought expressly
under the Indian Civil Rights Act, 25 U.S.C. Section 1301-1326
("ICRA"), as well as other cases that impact the civil
rights of tribal members based on tribal constitutions or other
law, whether or not the ICRA is cited.
