Higher education

  • Consortium for Alaska Native Higher Education (CANHE). CANHE seeks to increase access to higher education for Alaska Natives in a way which "perpetuates tribal culture and honors the people, the land, the air, the water, and the animals." Among CANHE's goals is the formation of a statewide consortium to work towards the establishment of local tribal colleges.
  • Ilisagvik College. Post-secondary academic, vocational, and technical education in an environment dedicated to preserving and strengthening Iñupiat culture, language, values, and
traditions. The college is located in Barrow, Alaska, the government center of Alaska's North Slope Borough, which has a predominately Iñupiat Eskimo population.
  • Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI). A bridging program at University of Alaska Fairbanks that assists students in rural Alaska in making the academic and social transition between high school and college.
