Alaska Natives & corrections

blue line

Alaska has a unified correctional system under the jurisdiction of the Alaska Department of Corrections, which operates correctional centers and regional jails and regional probation offices. Community jails operated by local departments of public safety, borough government, or city police departments contract with the state to house state prisoners, but there are limits to the length of time individuals can be held in these facilities. Most rural villages have small lockups for short-term detention of accused offenders.
The resources collected here have been chosen for their relevance to Alaska Natives. For further information on corrections in Alaska, see Corrections.
