Training
- Public
Safety Academy. The Alaska Law Enforcement Training Program
at the Public Safety Academy in Sitka is offered cooperatively
by the Alaska Department of Public Safety and the University
of Alaska Southeast (UAS). It offers specialized classes and
practical training for a variety of law enforcement careers.
The required core program meets training requirements for Alaska
police officers. Optional additional training is available for
those seeking law enforcement positions with the National Park
Service. See also the UAS Sitka Campus' page on the Law
Enforcement Training Program.
Certification
- Alaska Police
Standards Council. A regulatory and quasi-judicial body created
by the Alaska Legislature in 1972 with the power to establish
minimum selection and training standards for police, corrections,
probation, and parole officers. The council is composed of 11
members appointed by the governor and meets four times a year.
