National
Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS)
The most extensive source of information on criminal and juvenile
justice in the world. NCJRS is a collection of clearinghouses
supporting all bureaus of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP)
of the U.S. Department of Justice (see below), as well as the
White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).

Abstracts Database. Contains summaries of more than 160,000
criminal justice publications, including federal, state, and
local government reports, books, research reports, journal articles,
and unpublished research.

Virtual Library. 7,000+ full-text publications.
- JUSTINFO Justice
Information Electronic Newsletter. Twice-monthly email announcement
of new publications, grants and funding opportunities, and other
news and announcements. Issues are also available at this site.

- Online Research
and Information Center (NCJRS). Houses copies of recent ONDCP
and OJP publications and facilitates loans from NCJRS's 160,000-item
criminal justice library.
Office
of Justice Programs (OJP), U.S. Department of Justice
- Bureau of Justice
Statistics (BJS). The primary source
in the U.S. for criminal justice statistics. BJS collects, analyzes,
publishes, and disseminates information on crime, criminal offenders,
victims of crime, and the operation of the justice system at
all levels of government.
- National Institute
of Justice (NIJ). NIJ is USDOJ's research and development
branch and is the only Federal agency solely dedicated to researching
crime control and justice issues.
- Office of Juvenile Justice
and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). Provide national leadership,
coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to juvenile
delinquency and victimization.
- Bureau of Justice
Assistance (BJA). BJA provides funding, technical assistance,
and training to criminal justice agencies and communities in
the U.S.
- Office for Victims
of Crime (OVC). Advocates for the fair treatment of crime
victims.
Program offices
- American
Indian & Alaska Native Affairs Desk. Provides federally
recognized American Indian and Alaska Native tribes with information
on funding opportunities, training and technical assistance,
and other relevant information.
- Corrections Program
Office (CPO). Implements the correctional grant programs
created by the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act
of 1994, as amended.
- Drug Courts Program
Office (DCPO). Administers the Drug Court Grant Program authorized
by the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1994.
- Executive Office
for Weed and Seed (EOWS). Aims to prevent, control, and reduce
violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity in targeted high-crime
neighborhoods in the U.S.
- Office for Domestic
Preparedness (ODP). Responsible for enhancing the capacity
of state and local jurisdictions to respond to, and mitigate
the consequences of, incidents of domestic terrorism.
- Office of the
Police Corps and Law Enforcement Education (OPCLEE). Federal
program designed to address violent crime by increasing the number
of officers with advanced education and training who serve on
community patrol.
- Violence Against
Women Office (VAWO). Implements the 1994 Violence Against
Women Act (VAWA) and acts as a leader in the national effort
to stop domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
National
Institute of Corrections (NIC)
NIC is an agency of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Department
of Justice, and provides training, technical assistance, information
services, and policy/program development assistance to federal,
state, and local corrections agencies.

Other federal

- Government Accounting Office
(GAO). GAO is the investigative arm of Congress charged with
examining matters relating to the receipt and disbursement of
public funds. GAO performs audits and evaluations of government
programs and activities, including many in the area of justice.
