The resources here provide collections of justice data derived from research products and published sources. Data made available at these sites is useful for conducting new research based on existing data or in instructional programs on research methods.

Justice research data collections

  • Crime & Justice Electronic Data Abstracts. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice. Aggregated data from a wide variety of published sources are presented in spreadsheets here to facilitate use with analytic software. These files contain thousands of numbers and hundreds of categories, displayed by jurisdiction and over time. Wherever possible the data are the most recent available. Additional files on a variety of topics will be added as they become available.
  • National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD). NACJD acquires, archives, processes, and provides access to electronic criminal justice data collections for research and instruction. The NACJD website provides downloadable access to hundreds of criminal justice data collections free of charge. A program of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) and the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), U.S. Department of Justice.
  • National Juvenile Court Data Archive. Automated records of cases handled by courts with juvenile jurisdiction. Jurisdictions containing nearly 70 percent of the U.S. juvenile population contribute to the archive each year -- over 1 million new cases annually. The archive web site was developed to inform researchers about available data sets and procedures for use and access.
