Bureau
of Justice Statistics (BJS)
BJS is a component of the Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department
of Justice, and is the primary source in the U.S. for criminal
justice statistics. BJS collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminates
information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and
the operation of the justice system at all levels of government.
BJS makes most of its research products available in text or
Acrobat format at its website.
Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics
The Sourcebook of Criminal
Justice Statistics, published annually by the Bureau of Justice
Statistics, presents a broad spectrum of criminal justice data
from more than 100 sources in 6 sections. The electronic version
presents the most recent completed published edition of the Sourcebook
(as of this writing, the 2000 Sourcebook). Print editions of
the current and prior Sourcebooks are available from the Bureau
of Justice Statistics, or are available for reference use in
the Justice Center Library.
Uniform Crime
Reports
The Federal Bureau of
Investigation annually publishes Crime in the United States,
which contains statistics on crimes reported to U.S. law enforcement
authorities participating in the FBI's UCR program. Not all law
enforcement agencies in the U.S. participate in the UCR program.
