Senator Ted Stevens (R, Alaska)
Sen. Stevens became a U.S. Senator in 1968, when he was appointed by Gov. Wally Hickel, at the death of Sen. E.L. Bob Bartlett, to fill Sen. Bartlett's position. He won election in 1970 to complete Sen. Bartlett's term. In 1972 he was reelected to a full term, and has won reelection in 1978, 1984, 1990 and 1996. Senator Lisa A. Murkowski (R, Alaska)
Sen. Murkowski was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2002 by her father, Governor Frank Murkowski, to complete his term after his election as governor of Alaska. Her official website includes biography, press releases, speeches, and other information.
