Alaska environmental organizations

  • Alaska Center for the Environment. Anchorage-based non-profit environmental advocacy and education organization dedicated to the conservation of Alaska's natural resources. What's Up is a weekly compilation by Peg Tileston of conferences, workshops, and meetings related to the environment and natural resources and deadlines for public comments on various projects with environmental impact.
  • Alaska Conservation Alliance. Statewide coalition of 45 conservation groups and businesses.
  • Alaska Conservation Foundation. Community foundation that receives and awards grants related to Alaska's environment.
  • Alaska Conservation Voters. Works to protect Alaska's environment through public education and advocacy in the Alaska State Legislature, Congress, and other forums.
  • Alaska Forum for Environmental Responsibility. Works to hold industry and government accountable to the laws designed to safeguard the environment.
  • Northern Alaska Environmental Center. Fairbanks-based organization conducting advocacy and public education on the environment in Interior and Arctic Alaska.
  • Southeast Alaska Conservation Council. Coalition of 18 member groups in 14 communities in Southeast Alaska. Focuses include fish and wildlife habitat and reduction of clearcutting in Tongass National Forest.

Conservation in business

  • Green Star. Voluntary program that encouraging Anchorage-area businesses to incorporate techniques of waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention into their daily business activities.
  • Interior Alaska Green Star. Fairbanks-based program promoting waste reduction, energy efficiency, and pollution prevention in business practices in Interior Alaska.

Alaska wetlands, waterways, marine ecosystems, & watershed

  • Alaska Marine Conservation Council. Community-based organization working to protect and restore the marine environment through sustainable fishing practices, habitat protection, and local stewardship.
  • Alaska Oceans Network. Voluntary association of conservation, fishing, and Alaska Native organizations whose goal it is to restore and maintain healthy marine ecosystems in Alaska.
  • Anchorage Waterways Council. Nonprofit committed to protection and enhancement of waterways in the Municipality of Anchorage.
  • Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. Education and research on the marine and coastal ecosystems of Kachemak Bay in south Cook Inlet.
  • Cook Inlet Keeper. Citizen-based nonprofit dedicated to the protection of the Cook Inlet watershed and the life it sustains.
  • Prince William Sound Science Center. Independent, nonprofit research organization located in Cordova.

Alaska forests

  • Alaska Boreal Forest Council. Fairbanks-based organization promoting responsible stewardship of Alaska's boreal forest resources and assisting communities in developing sustainable practices for forest-based resources.
  • Tongass Conservation Society. Ketchikan-based conservation organization dedicated to
    preserving the biodiversity of the island forests of the Tongass National Forest.

Alaska biodiversity

  • Alaska Natural Heritage Program. University of Alaska Anchorage program which documents the distribution and abundance of ecologically significant plant and animal species, ecological communities, and natural features in Alaska, assessing Alaska's biodiversity for conservation and land use planning.

Regional organizations

  • ONE/Northwest. Online Networking for the Environment is a Seattle-based nonprofit providing technology assistance to conservation activists and organizations in Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
