Federal crime
prevention efforts
- PAVnet Online: Partnerships
Against Violence. An interagency site providing information
about effective violence prevention initiatives. Participating
federal agencies include the Departments of Labor, Education,
Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Health and
Human Services, and Defense.
- Watch
Your Car: National Auto Theft Prevention Program. The Bureau of Justice Assistance's
national voluntary vehicle registration program designed to deter
auto theft and assist in the apprehension of auto thieves. Based
on successful auto theft prevention programs in the states of
Illinois and Texas and in several local jurisdictions, car owners
in states and localities participating in the program voluntarily
display a decal which authorizes law enforcement officers to
stop the vehicle under certain circumstances to determine whether
it is being operated with the owner's consent.
- National Center for Injury
Prevention and Control (NCIPC). One of the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NCIPC's work to
reduce morbidity, disability, mortality, and costs associated
with injury outside the workplace includes violence prevention.
The Division of
Violence Prevention has four priority areas for violence
prevention: youth violence, family and intimate violence, suicide,
and firearm injuries.
