Established by the Alaska
Constitution, the Alaska Supreme Court sets the rules for administration
of Alaska courts and the rules of civil and criminal procedure.
It has final state appellate jurisdiction in civil and criminal
matters, and also hears petitions, and original applications

Court of Appeals
Established by statute
in 1980, the Court of Appeals hears appeals in criminal cases,
including matters involving criminal prosecution, post-conviction
relief, juvenile delinquency, extradition, habeas corpus, probation
and parole, bail, and sentencing.
