Associations in the United States

  • American Correctional Association (ACA): A multidisciplinary organization representing all levels and facets of corrections and criminal justice, including federal, state, and military correctional facilities and prisons, county jails and detention centers, probation and parole agencies, and community corrections/halfway houses. Publisher of Corrections Today; selected articles available online. 
  • American Jail Association (AJA): A national nonprofit organization providing training, conferences, and information toward the improvement of the nation's jails; publisher of the bimonthly magazine American Jails and other publications and videos for jail managers and employees. 
  • American Probation and Parole Association (APPA): An international association of individuals from the U.S. and Canada involved with juvenile and adult probation, parole, and community corrections; membership includes probation and parole practitioners as well as educators, volunteers, and concerned citizens. 
  • National Correctional Recreation Association (NCRA): Founded in 1966; composed of practitioners at the federal, state and local levels, including juvenile, medical, and community-based facilities, with a growing emphasis on inmate health promotion and the professional preparation of future correctional recreation practitioners.
