General information

Police training
- Alaska Police Corps.
Federally funded program, housed at University of Alaska Fairbanks,
to develop and train police officers to fulfill Alaska's public
safety needs, with an emphasis on community-oriented policing.
Eligible applicants include students enrolled in any accredited
public or private nonprofit, four-year college or university
in the U.S. (Persons graduated within the past 5 years may be
eligible to be waived into the program.) Applicants must commit
to completion of their four-year degree, successful completion
of an 18-week residential academy which includes police training,
and four years of service on community patrol as an officer with
an Alaska police department. See also the federal Office

State of Alaska
Alaska State Troopers enforce federal, state, and local
criminal and traffic laws in areas of the state without local
police departments. Fish and Wildlife Troopers enforce
fish and game laws and regulations on Alaska lands and waters.
Airport Safety Officers perform crash/fire/rescue, law
enforcement and safety functions at state-owned international
airports. In general, minimum qualifications for training and
certification under Alaska
Police Standards Council regulations must be met in order
to be employed in Alaska as a State Trooper or Airport Safety
Officer. The required core program of the Public
Safety Academy in Sitka meets training requirements for Troopers.
