The Alaska Victim Assistance Academy (AVAA) provides a comprehensive week-long training to beginning to intermediate level victim service providers, victim advocates, and allied professionals working with victims of crime. The curriculum embraces the entire scope of victim services, and addresses issues unique and specific to Alaska. Its curriculum is modeled on a curriculum established for use in the National Victim Assistance Academy by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime. AVAA's first academy was held in May 2010; another will be held May 15-20, 2011.
Under this project, the UAA Justice Center will develop a new evaluation tool for AVAA based upon a prior evaluation tool used in the 2010 AVAA as well as comments from the AVAA Steering Committee/
