This project uses personal interviews and survey data gathered from (1)
women who have experienced domestic violence and who have been or are involved
in custody battles in the Alaska Court System, and (2) providers of legal
services to these victims (e.g., judges, attorneys) and advocacy groups/agencies
such as the Alaska Council on Domestic Violence. Descriptive statistics
will be generated to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the Alaska
Court System's response to mothers who have experienced domestic violence
and who are involved in custody disputes with their husbands/partners. The
data (quantitative and qualitative) will be used to develop social and legal
policy recommendations for this group of domestic violence victims.
