Abstract: An examination of the judge’s role and responsibilities at criminal sentencings within the Alaska judicial system. The video presents two dramatized scenarios—a misdemeanor and a felony—and follows the defendants through their sentencings. Judges in the Alaska Court System provide analysis and commentary on the dramatized sentencings and place them in the context of Alaska sentencing law and procedure. The video was designed to be shown by someone with extensive knowledge of criminal sentencing. It can be stopped a various points for group discussion. A handbook of supplementary materials accompanies the video.
