Abstract: There are fifteen community jails located throughout Alaska and operated by local police departments under contract with the state. Several years of booking log data enables us to examine differences among these jails, particularly differences between those on the road system and those available only by air. Demographic information about those held, the types of offenses for which they are held, and differences among the jails regarding demographic and legal variables are examined.
