Until it was abolished by the Territorial Legislature in 1957, Alaska had a death penalty. Eight men, each convicted of murder, were executed in Alaska between 1900 and 1957. This article summarizes research on the trial and hanging of Nelson Charles, who was executed in Juneau on November 10, 1939.
