About the Alaska Justice Forum

Most recent issue: Winter 2008  |  Index to issues

The Alaska Justice Forum began publication in May 1977 under funding from the Alaska Criminal Justice Planning Agency, Governor's Commission on the Administration of Justice. It was published by the Criminal Justice Center (now the Justice Center) of the University of Alaska Anchorage and was edited by Roger V. Endell, Peter S. Ring, and Paul L. Edscorn. Due to lack of funding it discontinued with the June 1979 issue (Volume 3, Number 6).
The Justice Center and the Alaska Justice Statistical Analysis Center resumed publication of the Alaska Justice Forum under a different format in Spring 1987 (Volume 4, Number 1) with partial funding from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice. In later years, publication costs have been entirely borne by the Justice Center. The Alaska Justice Forum is edited by Antonia Moras.
The Alaska Justice Forum is a quarterly journal on criminal and civil justice topics for professionals and others interested in the functioning of the justice system, with an emphasis on the Alaska justice system. Articles from the Forum are regularly republished in other Alaska papers in whole or part and have been used as background material for many professional seminars within the justice system. The publication reaches members of the state legislature, Alaska state government officials, the Alaska U.S. congressional delegation, the bar, the judiciary, correctional and law enforcement agencies, research libraries throughout the country, social service agencies, and the general media. Recent issues have included pieces on public safety and law enforcement in rural Alaska, the Alaska judicial appointment process, sexual assault in Anchorage, the mentally ill in Alaska prisons, and Alaska justice system expenditures.
