Domestic violence & intimate partner violence

 

Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. It can include physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological abuse intended to intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound another person. About 85 percent of victimizations by intimate partners are against women (of which approximately 2 percent is between same-sex partners), 15 percent against men (of which 10 percent is between same sex partners).

Intimate partner violence describes violence or threats of violence between romantic or sexual partners.
