Alaska community jails

Community jails operated by local departments of public safety, borough government, or city police departments contract with the state to house state prisoners, but there are limits to the length of time individuals can be held in these facilities. Presently there are 15 community jails operating in Alaska (see the map and table in Adobe Acrobat PDF format), all of whom are members of the Community Jails Statewide Research Consortium administered through the Justice Center.
