The Bachelor of Arts degree in Justice
satisfies the educational prerequisites for a variety of administrative,
operational, research, and planning positions related to crime and the administration
of justice. Those graduates with records of high achievement in the Justice
undergraduate program will be prepared to pursue advanced education in graduate
and professional degree programs at the University of Alaska Anchorage and
other universities.
Graduates who receive a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Justice have both broad educational preparation for productive citizenship
and the specialized knowledge and skills required for the evaluation, administration
and improvement of police, court, and correctional policies and organizations.
For those who wish to further their education
in the justice area, the Justice Center offers a Criminal Justice emphasis in the Master
of Public Administration program.

Program
Information
Program information for the Justice
B.A. degree is available in Adobe
Acrobat PDF format.
After
August 30, 2004, new students enrolling in the Justice B.A. program
at UAA or students who change their major to Justice must meet requirements
significantly different from those published in the 2003-2004 and prior
catalogs.
Students
who entered under the old requirements who wish to graduate under
the new requirements can so so simply by talking with their Justice advisor
about their choice and then, when applying for graduation, indicating
their new catalog year in the space provided.
Changes to the requirement include
(but are not limited to):
- JUST
451 Research and Policymaking will be replaced by two new courses, JUST
200 Introduction to Justice Research Methods and JUST 201 Justice Data
Analysis.
- There
will be an (ungraded) exit exam.
- The new
Justice Research Honors designation will be available to students who
complete JUST 400, JUST 401, and JUST 488 as well as meeting the other
requirements. Students who complete the Honors requirements will have
the Justice Research Honors designation placed on their official transcript.
It is hoped that students who work towards Honors will participate as
research assistants on the Justice Center's many research projects,
most of which are paid positions, and that the combination of the Honors
designation and the practical experience of working on research projects
will increase their attractiveness to potential employers or graduate
programs.
