Abstract: In 1991, 2.2 percent of federal and state prison inmates were reported to have the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS. This article presents statistics on prisoners infected with HIV in state and federal correction institutions at yearend 1991. Based on the BJS report "HIV in U.S. Prisons and Jails", NCJ-143292.
